The AI Engineering Onramp (2025)
The AI Engineer Onramp is a practical introduction to the tools and workflows modern AI engineers use to build production LLM applications.
You'll set up your development environment, learn an AI-assisted development workflow, work with LLM APIs, build and deploy backend applications, connect frontend interfaces, and bring the pieces together into end-to-end LLM applications.
Developed by AI Makerspace as an open-source course, this resource includes learning modules, code, slides, and session recordings covering the foundations of LLM engineering through emerging techniques for small language models.
HOW TO USE IT
Start with the setup guides and work through the four sessions in order. Follow along with the code, recordings, and assignments, and use the materials to build your own LLM applications.
The course uses a practical stack including GitHub, Python, Cursor, coding agents, OpenAI models, FastAPI, Vercel, and Render.

LLM Foundations to SLMs (2023)
Go from understanding language models to engineering AI applications. A practical introduction to the foundations of LLM engineering, helping you understand the concepts, tools, and patterns behind modern language model applications. Work through the progression from foundational concepts toward building and experimenting with language model systems.

HOW TO USE IT
Explore the course sessions, follow along with the code, and build your own RAG application as you work through the materials. The course uses tools such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, FastAPI, RAGAS, and LangSmith. Since the cohort was taught in 2023, some code and dependencies may need updating to work with current versions.

LLMOps: LLMs in Production
Learn the engineering practices involved in taking LLM applications from an initial idea toward production. This course explores retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agentic workflows, LLM frameworks, deployment, evaluation, and observability through practical examples and code.
These materials come from AI Makerspace’s first LLMOps cohort, taught in August and September 2023. The open-source repository includes weekly lessons, code, slides, and session recordings, making the course available for independent learning.
